Lexy MacAskill (reel)
~ Work
Annotation
John wrote several tunes dedicated to family members. This one is said to be dedicated to his mother, born Lexy (Leagsaidh Ailein Lachlainn) MacKillop, in Rhuvanish, Berneray. This provides us with a more or less canonical spelling for the name.
However, some sources attribute it to a wife, a sister, or someone named Alexandrina MacAskill (nee MacKillop). It's difficult to be certain as historical records from Scotland are often poor, but there is no evidence for any such people other than vague word of mouth.
