One of the releases with Roland Kirk, this is probably the most wicked and funny Mingus album.
Mingus is shouting like a craze all along, and titles like Eat That Chicken should definitely be hit singles in a perfect world.
This edition is a cd reissue featuring an edited form of a Mingus interview (the full-length interview is to be found on the Complete Atlantic box-set).
There also exists a Rhino re-release without the interview but featuring extra tracks from another release.

A few performance details:

  • On Devil Woman, Kirk takes the first tenor solo, Ervin the second.
  • On Wham Bam Thank You Ma'am, Ervin takes the tenor solo.
  • On the remaining five tracks, Kirk takes all sax solos.
