1960 Duesseldorf

~ Release by John Coltrane (see all versions of this release, 3 available)

Annotation

Originally scheduled to be a Miles Davis Quintet recording, but Davis withdrew his assent and gave Coltrane precedence.

Recorded live in a WDR studio on March 28, 1960, Düsseldorf (Germany) without audience. Applause was admixed on the audio to suggest a concert atmosphere.

Stan Getz joins the band from 'Moonlight in Vermont' onwards. Oscar Peterson replaces Wynton Kelly on Rifftide, the final track.
On some editions, Rifftide is referred to as Hackensack.
