This is a "mono" version that is actually an edited version of the original mix in stereo. It's a fold down, not a true mono mix.
Atlantic edited 58 seconds to bring the fold down mono version of the original mix to a still long (for 1964) 2:54, losing most of the second verse and, stranger, two guitar chords just at the end (but keeping the last bass note).
The following release actually uses a mock stereo version created from this fold down edit:
