Waiting for Benny (studio, 1941-03-14, matrix CO.52599)
~ Recording by Charlie Christian, Georgie Auld, Cootie Williams, Johnny Guarnieri, and Dave Tough
Annotation
Commonly known as "Waitin’ for Benny".
Per the ever-excellent Solo Flight "solography" of Charlie Christian, this is a jam session spanning the last 73 bars of Riffin’ Around and the entirety of the first playing of what becomes in the session A Smo-o-o-oth One. The rest of the sextet and Christian were improvising while waiting for Benny Goodman and Artie Bernstein, who were late for the scheduled recording session.
