Ask Yourself Why
~ Recording by The Sapiens
Annotation
(Mercury 72505) (1965) A-side is “Love Ain't Makin' It No More,” (Also on this compilation.) From the mid-Hudson Valley of New York. They became local teen heroes when in September 1965 the Newburgh Board of Education refused to allow The Sapiens to return to classes due to the length of their hair. Letters from Mercury Records executives fell on deaf ears as the band was kept out of school for one year. Mercury apparently misspelled their name as “Sapians” on the 45. Rumor has it there is more unreleased material from 1965. Quality of the 45 is marginal, but hopefully its inclusion here will inspire a formal release in the future.
