Billy "Daniel" Bunter (real name Daniel Light), born in May 1975, is a British happy hardcore and hard dance DJ who has been a major figure in the UK rave scene for over three decades. Starting his career at age 15 in 1989 from humble beginnings working in an East London record shop, Bunter initially played Belgian hardcore and breakbeat at clubs such as The Labrynth in Dalston. Called a "pioneer of the rave scene" by DJ Mag, he combines old skool and new skool elements and has performed at many UK events such as Helter Skelter, Dreamscape, Slammin Vinyl, and Hardcore Heaven.
In 1995, Bunter set up the Great British Techno label (GBT), which would take the essence of happy hardcore and alter its course, steering the sound away from hackneyed samples and pure cheese towards its deeper roots in trance and techno. The clean, sharp and futuristic sound of GBT not only impregnated itself into the hardcore scene but spread further afield, gaining a following from Tony De Vit. Around the turn of the millennium, he founded the Honey Pot family of labels when he switched from producing hardcore to hard house, also releasing material under his Hardtrax and Up For It labels. From the late 90s to mid 2000s, Daniel was a pioneer of the hard dance sound and scene, regularly performing at events like Frantic, Sunny Side Up, Heat, Slinky, Sundissential, Pendragon, and Freedom. As both a DJ and producer, Bunter has sold approximately 1 million records and continues to be active in the hardcore and hard dance scenes, maintaining his influence across multiple generations of ravers.
